Vaginoplasty and vaginal rejuvenation

Surgical tightening, and the non-surgical options that sometimes make surgery unnecessary.

This is an area where a good deal is promised and not all of it is delivered, so it is worth being precise about what each option actually does.

Vaginoplasty

Surgical tightening of the vaginal canal and the surrounding muscles, most often sought after childbirth or with age-related change. It is performed under general or spinal anaesthetic as a day-care procedure. Ordinary activity returns within about two weeks; full recovery takes four to six.

Laser treatment

Fractional CO₂ or Er:YAG laser stimulates collagen and elastin in the vaginal wall. It can improve tone and lubrication and ease the dryness and irritation of atrophy, particularly after the menopause. It involves no surgery and no general anaesthetic, and a course of about three sessions is usual. It is not a substitute for surgery where there is significant laxity — the two do different things.

PRP and volume restoration

Platelet-rich plasma prepared from your own blood, used to support tissue quality; and fillers where volume in the labia majora has been lost with age or weight change. Both are minimally invasive and done in clinic.

Choosing

If a non-surgical option is realistic for you, it is the one I will suggest first — shorter recovery, lower risk, and surgery remains available afterwards. If a procedure will not give you what you are hoping for, I will tell you that rather than sell it to you.

Every case is different, and what is right for one woman is not right for another. The purpose of a first appointment is to work out which applies to you. Arrange a consultation.

Talk it through

A consultation is a conversation first. Nothing is booked in until you want it to be.
