Quick answer

What does cosmetic gynaecology actually cover?

Cosmetic gynaecology covers procedures that change the appearance or function of the vulva and vagina — hymenoplasty, vaginoplasty, labiaplasty, clitoral hoodectomy and monsplasty. Women choose them for comfort, for appearance, or after childbirth, and often for more than one of those reasons at once. Some concerns can be treated without surgery at all.

Not talking about it is a thing of the past. Vaginal health is part of a woman’s overall health, and how you feel about that part of your body is not a vanity — it affects confidence, comfort and intimacy.

Cosmetic gynaecology is the branch of the specialty that deals with the appearance and function of the vulva and vagina. Here is what it actually covers.

The procedures

  • Hymenoplasty — reconstruction of the hymen.
  • Vaginoplasty — tightening of the vaginal canal.
  • Labiaplasty — reshaping the inner or outer labia.
  • Clitoral hoodectomy — reducing the tissue covering the clitoris.
  • Monsplasty — lifting, tightening and reshaping the mons pubis.

Who asks for it

A mix of people, and rarely for the reason you would assume. Some come because exercise or sex is uncomfortable. Some come after childbirth, when things do not feel the way they used to. Some come for reasons that are entirely about appearance, which is a perfectly legitimate reason and one I am not going to ask anyone to justify.

What almost all of them have in common is that they thought about it for a long time before they said it out loud. If that is you, the hard part is already done.

Come and ask. A consultation costs you nothing but the appointment, and there is no obligation to book anything at the end of it. Get in touch.
